![]() ![]() The quality differs between iChat and Photo Booth Photo Booth color seems somewhat better to me. It would probably be better with more light (the RightLight2 feature doesn't work, remember). However, in System Preferences/Sound, it does seem to work.īearing in mind that I tested it in a room with very low light, and that light across the room from me, and at night, I'd say the quality of the image wasn't great. I have not tested the microphone in any app yet since I have no occasion to talk to anyone yet. However, third-party special effects do work in some (not all) cases.Īlso, none of the special Logitech features work: No RightLight2, no face tracking, no Logitech video effects, and probably (untested) no RightSound also no snapshot button function. No backdrop effects in iChat, for example. The functions are a bit attenuated because I am using a G5 Mac therefore the video effects are limited to the first two of the three or four panels usually present in today's Macs. This release incorporates Macintosh support for the QuickCam Pro 4000, QuickCam Zoom, QuickCam For Notebooks Pro, and QuickCam Orbit/Sphere only. It also works in Skype I have not tried AIM, MSN Msgr or Yahoo Msgr. The camera does work, in Leopard 10.5.1, right out of the box, in iChat and Photo Booth it does not work in iMovie, which requires either the built-in iSight cameras in current Macs or a Firewire camera connection. The Apple Store online description of the Ultra Vision SE (curiously, the MP is not the one listed-I think it's the same) says that the contents of the box are the camera and a quick start guide-no software included at all. The one I opened included software for Windows. I believe the hardware all to be the same-the Ultra Vision and Ultra Vision SE for Windows, and the Ultra Vision MP for Mac-except for the color of the exterior finish. It is not the package sold in the Apple Store this I got from Amazon, and it is not the black SE but the ivory and pewter version. I got, opened, and installed a Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision. ![]() (The Apple Store has the black SE version of the camera hardware the white and silver QuickCam Ultra Vision and the black SE are the same in specs, I believe they're identical save for the cosmetics.) So I would wonder if there's really anything different about the "Made for Mac" camera and the Windows camera. I have seen other mentions of Logitech web cameras working on the Mac, at the Logitech site they say it will have basic features provided by the native OS X driver for webcams-sight and sound-but not any of the advanced features, like RightLight 2, RightSound, face tracking, and video effects. I need to check and see if it has any special software to work with the Mac. I can find no mention of this edition of the camera on the Logitech site, and only one on Apple Store website. In the Apple Store in Troy, a Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision MP (there may be the words "Special Edition" in there too, I'll have to check) is being sold, with a Mac approval logo on it. I'm wondering what the status of Logitech support for Mac is now. ![]()
